How To Grill With Ghee
Share
Hello, fellow ghee lovers! Summer is in full swing and that means spending time outside and grilling fresh, delicious lunches and dinners. The only thing better than summer grilling is, well, summer grilling with 4th & Heart Ghee! If you’ve never done that before, allow us to blow your minds and give you some tips on how to grill with ghee all summer long.
But, Wait – Why Should You Use Ghee For Grilling Instead of Olive Oil or Other Neutral Oils?
Long story short – it’s healthier AND tastier!
When an oil is heated above its smoke point, it begins to smoke, becomes a trans fatty acid, and releases dangerous free radicals. Our 4th & Heart Ghee has a smoke point of 485ºF, so you can grill your heart out without worry.
Comparatively, extra virgin olive oil has a smoke point of 320ºF, which you will almost always exceed when grilling. When in doubt, remember that extra virgin olive oil is ‘best for drizzling, not for sizzling’ (don’t you just love that?!).
On the other hand, while vegetable oil and canola oil do have high smoke points of ~425ºF and ~450ºF respectively, they are inflammatory oils and have little to no nutritional value, compared to our ghee which is a source of vitamins and micronutrients. As with many highly processed food products, there are significant concerns about the safety of cooking with and consuming canola oil and blended vegetable oils from leading health experts, so it’s best to avoid them all together if possible.
Now that you know WHY you should be grilling with ghee, let’s get into the HOW!
Step 1: Preheat and Clean Your Grill
Whether you’re grilling inside or outside, one of the most important things to remember is to clean your grill! This prevents flare ups, uneven cooking, and ashy-tasting food. Preheat your grill and allow it to get VERY hot. Use a tightly rolled kitchen towel with tongs (or a grill brush, if you have one on hand) to scrape off any excess gristle, ash, or charred bits that might be stuck to your grill grates from past meals.
Step 2: Grease Your Grill
Next, lower the heat (this will avoid flare-ups). Grab a fresh kitchen towel and roll it tightly, then dip it into some melted 4th & Heart Ghee. Using the tongs and kitchen towel, lightly grease your grill to ensure that whatever you’re cooking doesn’t stick.
Pro Tip: Use our 4th & Heart Ghee Oil Spray to make greasing your grill even easier! You’re welcome.
Step 3: Get Cookin’!
Now you’re finally ready to grill! Depending on what you’re cooking, either remove it from its marinade or lightly brush it with some more melted ghee, salt, and pepper. Place your meat, fish, chicken or veggies onto your grill, and presto! You now have everything you need to know to be your own grill (and ghee!) master.
