What's In Season Right Now & How To Use Your Farmer's Market Haul

Hello, ghee lovers, and happy summer! It’s currently the best time of year for seasonal produce (in our humble opinion), and we wanted to break down how to shop for the freshest, most delicious ingredients!

Whether you’re shopping at a grocery store, farmer’s market, or using a local CSA haul, we want you all to know which ingredients to use right now to make your food taste better, give you and your family better nutritional density, and overall, know what’s in season! There’s nothing better than using the freshest and most delicious ingredients available, and we simply cannot get enough of summer produce!

Here’s an alphabetical list of what’s in season now through the end of September:

apples, apricots, avocados, bananas, beets, bell peppers, berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries), carrots, celery, cherries, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, green beans, herbs, lemons, lima beans, limes, mangos, melons (honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon), okra, peaches, plums, summer squash, tomatillos, tomatoes, and zucchini.

It sounds like a lot, and it is! That’s the beauty of summer produce – there are so many incredible things to eat and work with, but it can be a little overwhelming. We rounded up a few recipes so you don’t have to, and you can focus on using all of the amazing ingredients from your farmer’s market haul!

Vegetarian Greek Salad with Tahini Yogurt Dressing by @rachlmansfield

It doesn’t get much easier to use up your fresh produce than this! This salad is absolutely PACKED with veggies, so you can utilize any and all produce you just picked up from the market. The best part? If you don’t like an ingredient (or just want to add more), you can! Salads are meant to be tweaked, revised, and added to, so go crazy! We (of course) recommend that you use 4th & Heart Ghee or Ghee Oil to make the tahini yogurt dressing – it ties the whole shebang together and creates a truly out of this world summer salad!

Greek Chicken Kabobs by @thecleaneatingcouple

Keeping in theme with summer grilling, we absolutely had to include a kabob recipe. What’s more summery than a grilled protein and fresh summer produce on a stick? As with the previous recipe, feel free to add and switch up any produce that you want to use up, and don’t forget to slather your chicken (or other protein) and veggies with some melted 4th & Heart Ghee before grilling them! It’ll prevent them from sticking, while also giving your kebabs incredible buttery flavor. Hungry yet? We are!

Blueberry Cobbler by @paleorunningmomma

We’d be remiss if we didn’t finish this roundup with some kind of summery fruit dessert, and this one does not disappoint! This recipe utilizes fresh blueberries, but feel free to sub in or add any and all summery fruit produce like raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, or peaches! This recipe calls for solid coconut oil, and lucky for all of us, you can sub in any of our ghee products (we recommend Vanilla Bean) with a 1:1 ratio for some extra buttery goodness!

That’s all for now! Enjoy, and happy cooking!
