6 Innovative Ways To Get Creative With Ghee

6 Innovative Ways To Get Creative With Ghee

Happy Summer, ghee lovers! The season is in full swing and we are so excited to be spending time cooking (with ghee, of course!) and eating outdoors as much as possible. We’ve been inspired to think a little outside the box when it comes to cooking with ghee – there’s a big culinary world out there, and we intend to utilize 4th & Heart Ghee to our heart’s desire! We’ve rounded up a few unique ways for you to mix up your ghee usage at home. Happy cooking!

Biohacking Coffee

We’ve written about biohacking coffee before, but we just can’t say enough good things about it! Instead of adding the traditional (or nontraditional) milk and sweetener to your morning beverage, add a dollop of 4th & Heart Ghee (or Chocti) to a blender with your preferred drink of choice and whizz it up. The result will be a smooth, foamy, and yummy concoction that improves brain function while giving you the energy you need to start your day!

Blooming Spices

Blooming spices, or chhonk, is a South Asian technique that involves lightly frying spices in fat to unlock their maximum flavor. The compounds in many spices are fat-soluble, so when they’re heated in liquid fat, the mixture becomes one delicious, spice-perfumed party. Ghee is the traditional fat used to bloom spices due to its high smoke point, and adding a spoonful of spice-bloomed ghee will liven up any dish with incredible flavor. Try it on plain rice, cooked protein, or on salad!

To Make Mayonnaise

Homemade mayonnaise sounds like a chore, but it’s actually really simple (and so much yummier than store bought). Using ghee bumps the flavor up to the next level, so what are you waiting for? Add a room temperature egg yolk to a bowl with a teaspoon of lemon juice and some salt, then while whisking vigorously, VERY slowly drizzle in ¾ cup of ghee oil or melted ghee until the mixture emulsifies and turns into mayonnaise! Taste and season to your liking, and keep in the fridge.

As A Marinade

Because you can substitute ghee for virtually any cooking fat at a 1:1 ratio, you can use ghee in any marinade. We recommend using our Pourable Ghee Oil, (or melted ghee) for any marinade, like Our Perfect Summer Marinade. Trust us, once you try it, you’ll never go back!

Compound Butter

Compound butters are just a fancy term for flavored butters, and because 4th and Heart ghee is so spreadable at room temperature, it’s the perfect consistency for mixing in anything that your heart desires. We recommend flavors like garlic and lemon zest, anchovies and capers, fine herbs like basil, tarragon, dil, or parsley, and just about anything else! Dollop a cooked steak or fish with compound butter for a delicious and easy weeknight meal.

Moon Milk

If you have trouble sleeping, then why not try moon milk? It’s a natural sleep aid that will help you ease your mind and prepare you for a great night of sleep. Warm a cup of your favorite milk (regular or non-dairy), and whisk in a pinch of cinnamon, turmeric, nutmeg, and a dollop of honey and 4th & Heart Ghee (bonus points if you use Vanilla Bean or Turmeric!) This warm and soothing drink will definitely do the trick!

Confit or Poaching

Confiting, or cooking something in its own fat, is a popular French cooking technique that involves a little bit of patience with a LOT of payoff! By cooking something low and slow in its own (or any) fat, your food becomes delicious, rich, and fall-apart tender. Duck confit is the most popular, but why not try confiting chicken thighs, potatoes, salmon, or veggies in 4th & Heart Ghee? Try one of our flavored-infused ghees for even more delicious flavor.
