ThanksGHEEving Dinner Done Right—How To Use Ghee In Your Holiday Cooking

Hello, fellow ghee lovers, and happy ThanksGHEEving season, our absolute favorite time of year! We wanted to walk you through all the ways to use ghee in your Thanksgiving cooking, as well as provide some more recipes, so you can maximize your 4th & Heart usage all the way to the new year. Enjoy, and happy cooking!

ThanksGHEEving Cooking Tips

  • Turkey + Ghee = Match Made in Heaven. We are huge fans of a brined turkey (it keeps the meat very moist during its long cooking time so it doesn’t dry out), but the secret to an absolutely perfect Thanksgiving turkey is ghee! Pat the turkey skin dry, then liberally rub the entire outside of your bird with 4th & Heart ghee (we recommend Original Recipe, Himalayan Salt, Garlic, or even Turmeric!). As the turkey cooks, the ghee will ensure that your bird gets that beautiful, crispy, golden-brown exterior that we’re all chasing during Thanksgiving!
  • Use 4th & Heart Ghee Spray for all of your roasting needs. We inevitably use our ovens to cook many parts of our Thanksgiving meals, which means you’re going to be roasting quite a bit. To grease your baking sheets, look no further than our ghee spray! It quickly coats your pan with a fast, even layer of ghee spray that will make sure all of your gorgeous roasted food doesn’t get stuck.
    • When it comes to butter flavor, we got you covered. 4th & Heart ghee imparts a delicious, robust buttery flavor (without the lactose, we might add!), so it’s a no-brainer that you use it all throughout your Thanksgiving meal. Swirl a dollop or two into perfect mashed potatoes, melt and drizzle into your stuffing mixture before baking, toss your vegetables in it before roasting, or even spread it on your rolls or biscuits! Wherever you’d use butter, use ghee instead — you’ll never go back!
    • Use ghee in your Thanksgiving desserts. Thanksgiving desserts might just be the best part of the whole holiday, and there are infinite ways to use ghee in your desserts too! Whether you’re making classic pies like Apple or Pumpkin or making some cookies and cakes, use 4th & Heart ghee (Original Recipe, Vanilla Bean, or even Chocti!) in place of butter for absolutely perfect Thanksgiving desserts!

    Make-Ahead Roast Turkey by @inagarten

We turned to the undisputed queen of the kitchen—Ina Garten, aka The Barefoot Contessa—for the perfect turkey recipe! Ina is famous for slathering the outside of her turkey with room temperature butter, so we took a page out of her book and did the exact same thing with 4th & Heart ghee! As the ghee melts, it keeps the turkey incredibly moist and juicy, AND it ensures the perfect crispy-skinned exterior. As Ina would say, “how easy is that?”

Creamy Rosemary Mashed Potatoes by @fourthandheart

What else can be said about this tried and true side dish? We’ll let you in on a little secret: mashed potatoes are much better with ghee! The ghee melts beautifully into the potatoes and gives them a creamy, buttery kick, all without the lactose. These mashed potatoes are even better with flavored ghee, and we recommend using our Garlic ghee for a roasted, sweet garlicky flavor boost!

    Stuffing by @fourthandheart

Arguably the champion of Thanksgiving sides, this stuffing is a cinch to put together and tastes out of this world. Whether you call it dressing or stuffing, leave it in the bird or take it out, this side dish is an absolute classic that MUST be on your dinner table! The ghee ensures that the stuffing is layered with delicious buttery flavor, and it does not disappoint!

Whole30 Roasted Root Vegetables by @whatgreatgrandmaate

Roasted root vegetables are synonymous with fall and Thanksgiving, so we absolutely had to include a recipe in our Thanksgiving menu. This recipe is as simple and straightforward as it gets, and we recommend coating your root vegetables with ghee or ghee spray!

Rosemary Garlic Ghee (For Dinner Rolls) by @fourthandheart

While this isn’t necessarily a side dish, it certainly completes one! By infusing our Garlic ghee with rosemary, we might’ve created the best dinner roll/biscuit topping ever made!

    Paleo Apple Pie by @paleorunningmomma

This is the perfect way to end your Thanksgiving meal! We recommend you use chilled (yes, you read that correctly) 4th & Heart ghee to make perfect flakey pie crust. Bonus points if you use Vanilla Bean ghee, which will perfume your pie crust with the most delicious vanilla flavor!

    Pumpkin Cheesecake by @fourthandheart

Cheesecake may not come to mind when you think “Thanksgiving desserts,” but it will now! We’ve created a recipe that uses Vanilla Bean ghee in the crust and pumpkin in the filling for a spectacular, show-stopping finale to your Thanksgiving dinner! This creamy, delicious dessert will be a new staple on your table.
